South Texas CattleWomen and Uvalde Festival and Events Association are honored to produce the 2024 Briscoe Ranch BBQ Cook-off at the Crossroads.
This year’s event will take place December 13-14, 2024 at the Uvalde County Fairplex. With the average high temperature in the mid 70’s in mid December, cooking conditions should be nothing but favorable for guests visiting the Crossroads of America.
Sanctioned by the Champions Barbecue Alliance (CBA) BBQ teams will compete for cash and prizes.
Competition categories include beef brisket, pork butt, pork ribs and chicken and jackpot rib eye steak. Prize money will be given to 1st through 15th places in the three categories of brisket, pork ribs and chicken.
In 2007, under Jan Elliott’s leadership, South Texas CattleWomen became official hosts of the Briscoe Ranch BBQ Cook-off. After learning that Uvalde, Texas was the home of the very first organized barbecue cooking competition in America in the 1970’s, Elliott knew this was something in which STCW needed help to revive while promoting Texas beef. That very first cook-off during Uvalde’s Arama Days Festival, revolved around former Texas Governor Dolph Briscoe’s celebration following his election into office of Governor.
The revived cook-off 17 years ago brought eight teams and has seen continued growth attracting to as many as 165 teams to the Uvalde County Fairplex in recent years, making it one of the top barbecue cooking competitions in Texas attracting teams from over 1000 miles away. The event raises scholarship funds for deserving students attending Southwest Texas Junior College.
South Texas CattleWomen make the cook-off tasting judges feel like kings and queens as they pamper them from second they take their seat until they take their final bite of beef brisket.
We look forward to welcoming top cook-off contestants from across Texas to Uvalde while supporting deserving Southwest Texas Junior College students through scholarship contributions across SWTJC’s
11-county service area.
